Who doesn’t love a hound? Well if they met Travis, they’d certainly change their mind. Travis is the Bluetick Coonhound that I walked this past Saturday at the Montgomery County Humane Society.
Right out of the gate…or the dog pen, Travis was all personality. He’s happy to go out. He’s happy to sit. He’s happy to have a treat. And you know hounds, they sniff evvveerrryyyttthhinnngggg. Travis was no exception, but he was manageable on the leash. Sure, the new owner will need to work with him a bit on walks, but if his photo session is any indication, he’s a quick learner.
Travis and I headed down to the Rockville metro station so that I could get the skyline in the background. The trains can be a little distracting to some dogs, but Travis managed it without problem. And just as the rain clouds started to settle in, we got a few shots in with that adorable sorrowful hound looking back at the camera. After a few minutes sniffing around, I called his name and he came running.
So I swapped one hound for another. Crystal was next. She was a 1.5 year old beagle mix with the cutest personality. Crystal is that dog that you look forward to seeing at the end of a hard day – very eager to see you. But Crystal was that way for our entire walk!
We went across the street to the park. I thought it would make a great picture with Crystal up on one of the park benches. Up she popped onto the bench. I raised my camera up, and then she’d pop down from the bench. We did that about three times and by then, I got a clear signal that Crystal didn’t think the bench made for a very good portrait setting.
Crystal is interesting. Call her name and she eagerly comes over to get (and give) some attention. But once the attention stops, her beagle senses take over and she’s attending to every person who walks by, every scent in the grass, or every ant that happens to cross the pavement. She's a very inquisitive little pup.
With the rain clouds looming even more, Crystal and I settled for a shot of her sad eyes looking up while she stood on the brick pavement. Click.
